The new summer season at the Maritime House starts on Tuesday the 13to of June with the opening event of summer exhibit " We who have been at sea onboard GE-ships". The exhibit is a loan from the Maritime Museum in Mariehamn. The Åland based shipping company created by Gustaf Eriksson employed several hundreds of people in the 20th century and former employees of the company have later formed a special Facebook group of the same name as the exhibit.

The group now has more than 600 members and an effort to collect photos as well as memories that pertain to life and work onboard the GE ships has been launched by the group administrators. This exhibit is a product of the a former collecting campain within the group. The memories presented in the exhibit are mostly from the 1960s onwards.

We will also present a film of how the Engship Shipping Company came to be in which the shipowner Kaj Enblom is interwieved about his past. The film was made possible through the project "Living History in the Archipelago Museums" and was produced by the Sydkusten association. The film will be available for viewing at the Maritime House during this summer season.

The opening event will take place on the 13th of June at 6PM and participants of the event have free access to the Maritime House. Welcome to Nagu!
